This recording was taken during the meke performance at the July-August Chief handover ceremony as part of the 20 minute routine that the tribe put on for the small crowd.
I apologise in advance for the wind interference in the live meke recordings. The microphone wasn't in a good position, and as a result, picked up a bit of wind noise. Other than that, the quality is not too bad.

The first ever performance of the new spear meke that Tevita taught the tribe in July 2007. This recording was taken during the meke performance at the July-August Chief handover ceremony as part of the 20 minute routine that the tribe put on for the small crowd.

Group Meke (4th and 5th)

Sunday Aug 05, 2007

The two seated mekes that are performed with guys and girls sitting in one alternating line. This was also part of meke practice for the tribe in preparation for our performance at Doug’s wedding on Vorovoro the next day. Not quite a full choir of singers, but the 3 or 4 Fijians who were there did a brilliant job anyway.

More meke practice for the men of the tribe in preparation for our meke at Doug’s wedding on Vorovoro the next day. This particular meke is very popular with the ladies and is especially worthwhile if you ever get the chance to see Tevita in full flight. While we didn't quite have a full choir of singers, the 3 or 4 Fijians who were there did a brilliant job anyway.

Guys Meke (1st and 2nd)

Sunday Aug 05, 2007

The last bit of the Tribewanted meke intro plus the first two guys mekes. These are the two mekes that the guys perform standing up, whereas the following mekes are all performed while seated. This was recorded during our meke practice session in preparation for our meke at Doug’s wedding on Vorovoro the next day. Not quite a full choir of singers, but the 3 or 4 Fijians who were there did a brilliant job anyway.
